How long do I keep medical bill receipts?

Posted by admin
Have a GREAT day! asked:

I paid off a few medical bills and I was just wondering if it was ok to shred the receipts or if I should keep it for a certain amount of time. Thanks!

    1. Tom Says:

if you paid with credit card that history will work or your check stub. i keep mine for a year.

    2. April H Says:

For as long as you keep your income tax return records. Just in case of an audit. ;)

    3. NunyaBidNess Says:

If you dont use them to itemize your taxes, they can be disposed of at the end of the year.

Any year you are able to itemize and use those receipts, you need to keep them with that year’s tax return for a period of 7 years ( the farthest back an audit can go is 7 yrs on a personal return)…..

    4. Shred Guy Says:

Keep these five years from the date of the service rendered.
