If I still have one medical bill on my credit record will that effect my joining the air force?

Pam asked:

I have paid everything off on my credit record except a $3000 medical bill will I still be able to join the air force with this on my record?

    1. SMBR Says:

Yes, you may enlist with some outstanding debt.

There may be a problem getting a security clearance since debt flags for a more detailed investigation.

You do want to make a payment plan and keep to it — else you will invite some extra attention from your chain of command to make sure you pay your bills.

You must have a wife and kids? Good luck — hard road to start of as an E1 with a family. But stick with it and keep up the disipline that you showed cleaning up your credit report.

Debt is not an issue, as long as its not huge.

As long as it is not in default/collections status.

If you have 3k on a credit card, as long as you are making payments

Then its not an issue at all.
