Is SOPA the stupidest bill ever introduced to Congress?

I don’t think theres anything that’s dumber than SOPA because the internet was made to express our freedom, not block it. Instead of this they should be more focused on more important things instead of worrying about piracy, because piracy is the least of their concerns.

    1. Bill Says:

      Which politician introduced the bill?

      Therein lies your answer.

    2. No. Says:

Affirmative Action and Amnesty bills are pretty destructive as well. SOPA’s only benefactor seems to be the RIAA and other similar organizations.

    3. How would I know Says:

So essentially you’re saying that you’re a worthless, lowlife thief that is too cheap to pay for their own music or movies?

    4. Hifza Says:

I agree with you. Its immature!!!

The writers of SOPA and PIPA freely admit that they are basing their law on the same Internet Censorship Laws and Technology used in Communist China to censor internet content. It is overt censorship of the internet.

      ✖ Who’s opposed to SOPA?
Much of the Internet industry and a large percentage of Internet users. Here’s the most current list (PDF) of opponents.

✖ Congress is considering two well-intentioned but deeply flawed bills, the PROTECT-IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
As written, they would betray more than a decade of US policy and advocacy of Internet freedom by establishing a censorship system using the same domain blacklisting technologies pioneered by China and Iran.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — The tech industry is abuzz about SOPA and PIPA, a pair of anti-piracy bills. Here’s why they’re controversial, and how they would change the digital landscape if they became law.

✖ The PROTECT IP Act (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011 or PIPA)

IT IS THE MOST DUMBEST, RIDICULOUS PIECE OF SHIT THAT HAS EVER CREATED BY SOME OLD GEEZER THAT THREATENS US FREEDOMLOVERS TO OBLIGE THIS TRASH ONE DAY.

GOVERNMENT IS SO F’UP IF THIS WILL HAPPEN

    7. mrcead Says:

“Piracy” is just the face they needed to get the support of Hollywood and the music industry. the bill will bite them hard, believe it. The bill gives the government, Chinese level influence over the internet. Whatever they don’t like will get taken down.

Certain people can’t live without exerting some sort of control. They think the web is out of control and use Piracy as the “foot in the door” only because it has a big number of offenders attached to it and that alone will sell this bill. The MPAA and the RIAA represent industries that are more than capable of using current technology to meet the distribution demands of the internet age, they are just too stingy to enact it and rely on DVD, cable tv, cellular, radio and satellite, effectively trying to milk those mediums. I can only imagine all of the lost sleep over the death of VHS, vinyl, cassettes and 8-tracks.

Many people see this as a way to stop piracy.

      This is blatant mission creep.

Yea, because why would the government care about the entertainment industry’s income, anyway? I realize piracy is illegal, but it helps our citizens. It helps us save money and time. We can save money because it’s free and we don’t have to spend money on gas to go to movie theaters and we can save time because we don’t have to go by the movie theater’s time, we can watch a movie on our off time cuz, I mean, people have jobs to tend to. We are in a depression, right now. Congress, give us a break. -_-

    9. Steve D Says:

The Government is more interested in protecting copyrights then protecting us from identity theft and Internet fraud.
The longer I live and the more I hear about what goes on inside the Beltway the more I believe we need to give the US an enima and the hose goes in at Washington.
Under SOPA you would get in more trouble for pirating a Micheal Jackson song than the Doctor that caused his death.
