First time I hear this song, and it is so profound. Once again, Kris true to himself and his values, never wavering. I admire this man so much.

He volunteered for Vietnam, but fortunately (!!!) they didn’t let him go, because they wanted him to teach English literature at West Point … For sure he would have done his duty and might never have returned… just inconceivable… I not even dare to think about it…

Mr Kristofferson was in the 8th Infantry in Germany during the early sixties. He did fly helecopters and was trained as an Army Ranger. He got out of the Army in ‘65 and continued his music career.
He did not serve in Vietnam but he did serve with honor which is what your point is anyway. I am positive had he served with us in Vietnam (Marine Infantry here) he would have done his duty. Unlike the shrub and DICK.
Regardless, Mr Kristofferson is a giant among us.

This song is just great and wise with its lyrics and its message “No more war and no more killing in the name of god (of any god, I think) … or it’s all over…”

How about a video commemerating the vicitms of Saddam Hussein? The hundreds of thousands murdered and thrown into ditches. Kris never mad a song about them. He only wailed when Bush liberated them and stopped Saddam’s carnage.

yep….unlike todays singers his era -cash,nelson,jennings,hendrix,joplin-of singers were observant and aware of the world around them.Todays singers [if you can call them singers]seem willfully ignorant and don’t show awareness of the world around them.

Yes, Kris, it was a tradgedy when Lacy and Connor were murdered, but it did take our minds off what our troops were going through. We were able to forget about them …………..for a while. Thank you for pointing this out in your own special way.
