Why is Fox News giving such light coverage to one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent memory?

Culture Warrior asked:

Haiti is certainly the biggest news event right now. Compared to CNN and MSNBC, Fox News’ coverage of this major catastrophe has been very light. Fox spent more time on the ACORN tapes. Why is this? Does Fox News only devote significant amounts of time to “news” that can be politicized and used to attack the Left?

    1. NeoNerd Says:

Fox has never been about serious news since Murdoch took it over. It offers infotainment. A terrible natural disaster is not nearly as entertaining as creaming political commentary, so they do the latter.

    2. Virginia Gentleman Says:

Are you serious? I have watched 4 different networks today, including Fox, trying to find one that was not talking about Haiti.

    3. civil_av8r Says:

The tragedy isn’t over with yet. Comparing how much time they spent on one story to another ongoing story - without and backup facts at that - is a very “pick and choose” approach. Try next month and do a comparison.

    4. Maoist Rebel Says:

They’re like Pat, They think Haitians deserved it because they made a pact with the devil.

    5. RU Quazee Says:

      “light”, eh?
Seems they’re pretty much as covered as the rest do. Maybe just a little less of the mainstream hoopla.

    6. homegirl Says:

You answered your own question. If FOX can’t attack President Obama or Democrats it isn’t news. To the point of manufacturing stories.

    7. timetravler Says:

You have GOT to be kidding. What do you want 24/7 coverage of Haiti and no other news? Personally I like to know what is going on in the whole world, not just one small island. Sorry, but I think what Fox news is covering is just perfect.

    8. Ewok Says:

I think its because of the Program Manager

    9. trippsmith485 Says:

Because they can cover whatever they want to.

    10. youroddworld Says:

Mainstream hoopla? Come on, news is news. NEWS, what is NEWS anymore?!

Also seems like people dont yet understand the gravity of the situation in Haiti….yet.

To Jamal - He’s certainly more intelligent than you. What do you have to show for your education? Insults, that’s it.

    11. limetang Says:

Because there perspective is little off.

    12. JamalB Says:

Despite the disaster, there is more to report than Haiti…such as s**t-for-brains in chief Obama’s attempted destruction of America.

    13. !truth! Says:

Because all the other media is already saturating the U.S.A of the news. I love it when the media claims that no relief supplies are being handed out and keep showing the same footage of video they took from the beginning. It would be more worthy of the news people reporting in Haiti to actually dirty their hands and start helping Haitians instead of talking and saying the same old stuff.

      Reading Media Matters again?

Nah, I suppose it’s because like most liberals you wake up at 2 p.m. after the news. The political commentators start to come on at that time, and there is very little political about what happened in Haiti.

    15. Becca the Tea Lady Says:

There are other things going on in the world you know. Like Congress sneaking through a crappy Health Care Bill in the dark of night behind closed doors.
Everyone feels bad for the Haitians, we have sent our money, military and anything they may need. Are we now suppose to watch them do there jobs. Also, Acorn will effect OUR lives more right now.

    16. andrew.forbes81 Says:

Fox is not really a news station.

    17. Banker Says:

You must not have a good TV, Fox is following it 24-7. Get a good tv and it will show you.

    18. Jack Says:

You’re wrong - Fox had a lot of coverage. One could determine actual minutes, but that would be not spinning, unbiased, and folks that don’t like Fox tend not to handle reality so well.

I don’t think CNN and MSNBC are getting good ratings at all… last I heart Fox is leading by something like a 7-1 ration.
